JobsGPU Physical Design Engineer, STA/Timing
Job description
This role is part of Apple's Silicon Engineering group, focusing on the design and manufacturing of high-performance, power-efficient processors. The primary responsibility is to lead timing closure efforts for complex GPU designs used in Apple products. The position involves collaboration with various teams to ensure best design practices and smooth execution of timing closure. Candidates will gain exposure to product development from concept to post-silicon validation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
- 10 years of relevant experience in STA and leading timing closure efforts.
- Experience with STA concepts such as cross-talk, OCV, and noise.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like TCL, Python, Perl, and shell scripting.
- Experience working with EDA tools and exposure to their APIs.
- A good track record for driving timing closure.
- Experience working with post-silicon debug and timing correlation.
- Experience in setting up frequency targets for future generations.
Responsibilities
- Lead different STA activities simultaneously by collaborating with functional teams.
- Identify dependencies and roadblocks for STA items early to ensure smooth timing closure execution.
- Participate in analysis leading to the definition of next-generation products.
- Interact with RTL and architecture teams to understand physical design constraints related to timing.
- Work with Synthesis and Physical Design teams to optimize design for power, performance, and timing.
- Set up all DFT modes and ensure all test features are properly timed.
- Assemble the top-level design for STA and review logs and reports for accurate analysis.
- Create and maintain scripts and automation for high-quality STA reports.
- Run ECO flows on the design and be responsible for close timing.
- Drive and support tapeout activities by running signoff checks for high-quality silicon.
- Collaborate with CAD and vendors to improve analysis flows and introduce groundbreaking features.
- Work with post-silicon teams and product engineering for silicon debug activities.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
