JobsGPU Physical Design Engineer, STA/Timing
Job description
This role is part of Apple's Silicon Engineering group, focusing on the design and manufacturing of high-performance, power-efficient processors. The main responsibility is to ensure timing closure of complex GPU designs used in Apple products. The position offers opportunities to collaborate with various teams, including Architecture, RTL, and Physical Design, to uphold best design practices. Candidates will engage in product development from concept to post-silicon validation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is required.
- Experience or coursework in physical design, synthesis, DFT, or clocking is necessary.
- Experience or coursework with digital logic design, RTL, DV testing, CMOS transistor logics, or VLSI concepts is required.
- Experience with scripting languages such as TCL, Python, Perl, or shell scripting is essential.
- A Master's degree is preferred.
- An internship or prior work experience in timing closure or physical design is required.
- Experience working with EDA tools and exposure to their APIs is necessary.
- Exposure to advanced concepts like XALK, POCVM, or ETMs is beneficial.
- Experience in analysis of large volume data and generating ECOs is required.
Responsibilities
- Interact with RTL and architecture teams to understand physical design constraints related to timing.
- Partner with Synthesis and Physical Design teams to implement optimized designs for power, performance, and timing.
- Set up all DFT modes and ensure all test features are properly timed.
- Assemble the top-level design for STA and ensure accurate analysis by reviewing logs and reports.
- Create and maintain scripts and automation for high-quality STA reports.
- Run ECO flows on the design and be responsible for close timing.
- Support tapeout activities by running a full suite of signoff checks for high-quality silicon.
- Work with CAD and vendors to improve the flow and introduce groundbreaking features to analysis flows.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
