Job description

Rivian is seeking a skilled Sr. Soiling and Water Management Engineer to join the Environmental Performance team. This role focuses on vehicle-level target setting, simulation of soiling and water management scenarios, and test standard development. The successful candidate will utilize advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics methods to model complex particle and fluid flows, ensuring vehicles operate effectively in harsh environments. The position requires collaboration with various teams to meet environmental performance targets and involves significant technical communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on fluid dynamics is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive or aerospace industries in product development and design.
  • Foundational knowledge of commercial CFD codes and their application to fluid flow problems.
  • Familiarity with CAD software, preferably CATIA V6, for surface manipulation and model preparation.
  • Proven track record of problem-solving and independent root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical findings to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel up to 40%.

Responsibilities

  • Execute high-fidelity Soiling and Water Management simulations to optimize vehicle performance.
  • Conduct product research to highlight industry trends and identify opportunities for product differentiation.
  • Collaborate with sub-attribute and subsystem teams to develop product performance targets.
  • Coordinate with the Test & Development team to assign DVPs to test blocks on validation assets.
  • Support environmental performance testing to correlate digital models with real-world vehicle performance.
  • Partner with various teams to ensure Environmental Performance targets are met.
  • Leverage machine learning and advanced scripting to automate simulation post-processing.
  • Synthesize complex fluid dynamics phenomena into actionable reports for senior leadership.
  • Provide technical assistance to engineers and propose solutions to issues when found.
