Job description
The Senior Software Development Engineer role focuses on leading the design and architecture of distributed log and database systems that support critical AWS services. The team is responsible for building high-performance, strongly consistent data systems operating at massive scale. This position offers the opportunity to mentor other engineers and drive the technical direction of foundational services. Candidates should have strong distributed systems design skills and a commitment to engineering excellence.
Requirements
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
- 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
- Experience as a mentor or tech lead in an engineering team
- Experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems
- Experience debugging, profiling, and implementing best software engineering practices in large-scale systems
- 5+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C#
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and architecture of highly available, low-latency distributed log and database systems
- Own complex and ambiguous technical problems end to end
- Set technical direction across foundational services and make architecture decisions
- Work with partner teams on shared designs and dependencies
- Mentor and develop engineers through design reviews and hands-on technical guidance
- Advance engineering excellence by improving operational rigor and development practices
