The Software Engineer role is focused on developing an agentic AI platform that enhances developer productivity at Microsoft. The position is part of the ES365 AI team, which is responsible for creating tools and systems used by thousands of Microsoft developers. The team aims to push the boundaries of AI-powered developer efficiency through innovative solutions. Candidates will work closely with other developers and codebase owners to gather feedback and improve the platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Prior experience building with Agent SDKs, large language models (LLMs), or AI orchestration frameworks.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI development patterns such as multi-step reasoning and human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer delivering large-scale, production-quality systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver complete features across the development lifecycle, including design, architecture, implementation, and servicing.
  • Use AI in daily coding and advocate for best practices within the team.
  • Demonstrate resiliency to experiment with multiple AI approaches.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to engineers within and beyond the team.
  • Write and review clean, well-thought-out code with an emphasis on quality and maintainability.

Benefits

  • Employees at Microsoft are often offered comprehensive, “world-class” benefits—including health and mental-wellness programs, competitive pay with bonuses and stock awards, and retirement/savings options. Time-off and flexibility are common, with generous vacation and holidays, parental and caregiver leave, and flexible work schedules, alongside learning support, employee resource groups, product discounts, and matching-gifts/volunteering programs. Specific benefits can vary by region.
