Job description

Tesla is looking for a motivated Industrial Launch Engineer to facilitate the launch and scaling of energy products like Megapack. This position is crucial in connecting design, manufacturing, and deployment to ensure smooth product introductions and ongoing enhancements in production processes. The role involves collaboration with various teams to optimize production efficiency and quality. The engineer will also address production challenges and support the transition from prototypes to mass production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial engineering, product launch, or manufacturing engineering, preferably in energy or high-tech industries
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly line setup, and production scaling
  • Experience with industrial electronics enclosures, energy storage systems, or large-scale battery products is a plus
  • Proficiency in CAD software and data analysis tools such as MATLAB or Excel
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a challenging environment
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support launch activities at various Tesla facilities

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the successful launch of Megapack and other energy storage solutions
  • Own component mechanical design to resolve production issues and improve product field quality
  • Develop and optimize industrial processes for high-volume production focusing on efficiency and quality
  • Identify and resolve production bottlenecks during the launch phase by implementing innovative solutions
  • Support the transition of products from prototype to mass production, ensuring design for manufacturability
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for issues arising during launch and early production stages
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure component readiness and alignment with production timelines
  • Create and maintain documentation, including process workflows, SOPs, and launch checklists
  • Develop and execute component and subsystem design validation plans and test methods to validate product adherence to requirements
  • Travel to support production launch and ramp activities
