Job description
Tesla's Supplier Quality team is essential in safeguarding manufacturing operations by addressing supplier quality issues. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and effective communication with various teams. The position offers exposure to complex manufacturing systems and quality methodologies while allowing individuals to develop technical and leadership skills. The main focus is on preventing quality issues through proactive measures and ensuring high-quality products for customers.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Understanding of implications of class A surface components on vehicles
- Strong foundation in manufacturing and quality methodologies including OEE, 8D problem solving, and Statistical Process Control
- Exceptional interpersonal skills for building collaborative relationships across functional teams
- Proactive, results-driven mindset with a passion for improving processes
- Practical experience with Quality Systems, PPAP/APQP processes, and various inspection methods
- Strong technical communication abilities
- Supplier sourcing or process audit experience is a plus
- Practical experience with data analysis and visualization using tools like SQL, Tableau, Python is a plus
Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive investigations of supplier quality issues using data analysis
- Drive containment actions and develop sorting/rework methodologies to ensure quality standards
- Solve problems under pressure by providing actionable next steps to the team
- Prioritize tasks effectively using hypothesis testing and Risk Priority Number evaluation
- Break down complex tasks into manageable steps and lead implementation
- Identify and champion kaizen initiatives to enhance quality and reduce costs
- Own and drive Supplier Quality KPIs including SCAR containment metrics and sort closure rates
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely sort initiations and manage PO releases
- Stay updated on emerging manufacturing and engineering trends impacting product quality
- Follow issues through to completion, supporting different production shifts as needed
