The Magnetics Intern position at Tesla's Power Electronics Engineering team focuses on tackling complex magnetics challenges across various products. Interns will work closely with a team of engineers in a fast-paced environment, contributing to projects that have a significant impact on power electronics. The role emphasizes hands-on experience in magnetic component design and simulation, allowing interns to develop their technical skills while collaborating with seasoned professionals. This internship is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Solid grounding in electromagnetic theory, including properties of magnetic materials and winding techniques for high-frequency components
- Foundational knowledge of power electronics topologies and their impact on converter-level performance
- Hands-on experience with magnetic component design, including core selection and thermal considerations
- Exposure to electromagnetic or multi-physics simulation tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, SIwave, or COMSOL Multiphysics
Responsibilities
- Partner directly with electrical, mechanical, EMC, and controls engineers across the full product development lifecycle
- Diagnose, debug, and resolve complex issues in magnetic component design
- Build and refine the simulation infrastructure used by the magnetics team
- Lead hands-on electrical testing efforts, from bench-level component characterization to converter-level performance validation
Benefits
- Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
