Job description
Tesla is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Vehicle Packaging team, focusing on developing innovative designs for high volume automation equipment. The role involves working on the design, optimization, prototyping, and validation of components throughout the supply chain and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will engage with various aspects of vehicle development, ensuring precision and efficiency in their designs. Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience with evidence of exceptional ability.
- 5+ years of experience designing mechanical components and systems from concept through production validation.
- Strong working capability with CAD and CAE simulation tools such as CATIA, Pro-Engineer, and ANSYS.
- Ability to deliver designs with datum structure, GD&T, and accurate tolerance stack up analysis.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturing (DFM) and various manufacturing processes including machining, welding, and injection molding.
- Working knowledge of a wide variety of materials including aluminum, steel, composites, and foam.
- Experience with design for reliability and respective durability testing requirements.
Responsibilities
- Deliver technical designs of vehicle packaging and material handling optimized for weight, precision, manufacturing, durability, and velocity.
- Perform CAD, FEA, and durability simulation of concept designs, recommend physical prototype candidates, and execute testing.
- Conduct technical design reviews and ensure compliance with standards such as ASTM and ISTA.
- Deliver finished designs, detailed drawings, and engineering specifications for supplier bidding and compliance.
- Research and implement new techniques and technologies to improve vehicle packaging capability.
- Participate in supplier evaluations to ensure technical deliverables can be achieved.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on design, manufacturing, material flow, and packaging projects.
