Job description
Tesla is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer, Process to join their Mechanical Design Engineering team in Fremont, CA. This full-time, on-site role focuses on creating innovative mechanical designs for process and utility systems. The engineer will apply strong process and chemical engineering principles to ensure designs are safe, reliable, and integrated with Tesla's manufacturing processes. The position involves collaboration with various stakeholders and adherence to engineering standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical or process system design for industrial facilities.
- Proven experience developing Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Strong proficiency in utility systems, chemical bulk storage, and distribution system design.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, ASME, and applicable building codes.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, and Pipe-Flo.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface effectively at all levels.
- US-based Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with willingness to obtain a California PE license.
Responsibilities
- Support the ultimate system owner for a wide range of process and utility systems.
- Produce mechanical design engineering deliverables, including PFDs and P&IDs.
- Interface with equipment suppliers from concept through detailed design and acceptance testing.
- Develop operating procedures, safety protocols, and maintenance plans for large-scale process equipment.
- Review and ensure all mechanical designs meet applicable codes and standards.
- Support field construction and commissioning activities as the technical point of contact.
- Collaborate with external EPC firms during bidding and project execution.
