Job description
Tesla is looking for a Manufacturing Process Engineer to lead the development and launch of the Optimus Gears manufacturing program. This role focuses on optimizing and sustaining specialized manufacturing processes for precision gear production. The engineer will transition automated lines from early prototypes through commissioning and mass production. Candidates should have expertise in one of several technical tracks, including heat treatment, precision machining, and gearbox assembly.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on expertise launching and optimizing equipment within one of the five core tracks listed
- Strong statistical background with proven experience applying Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC)
- Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of robotics, automation, and machine vision
Responsibilities
- Fully own, optimize, and scale the operational performance of the assigned technical track
- Structure, execute, and analyze formal DOEs to identify critical process parameters and minimize process variation
- Create process flows, PFMEA, Control Plans, and standardized work
- Support equipment specifications and supplier RFQs
- Participate in equipment design reviews and process validation
- Support installation, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities
- Develop process capability and manufacturing acceptance criteria
- Improve safety, quality, throughput, cycle time, and OEE
- Support pilot builds and production ramp activities
- Address equipment failure modes, process bottlenecks, and quality variances using data-driven problem-solving methods
