Job description

Tesla Energy is seeking an engineer to integrate software, hardware, and mechanical design for next-generation industrial energy storage. The role emphasizes collaboration and aims to contribute to Tesla's mission of sustainable energy. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure performance and safety requirements are met while driving continuous improvement in design and performance. This position involves hands-on hardware bring-up and prototyping.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3+ years of experience in electronic design, integration, and testing
  • In-depth understanding of HV/LV electronic components and expertise in developing characterization/validation testing methods
  • Strong understanding of device characteristics, gate driving circuit design, thermal design, and power electronics topologies
  • Familiarity with networking and digital communication protocols such as JSON RPC, TCP/IP, CAN, LIN, I2C, SPI
  • Experience with Altium or other schematic entry and PCB layout software
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C, and C++
  • Proficiency with basic EE tools including scopes and network analyzers
  • Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills and excellent attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Perform hardware and firmware integration of next generation Tesla industrial energy storage
  • Lead and own hardware/firmware validation, board debug, root-cause analysis, and firmware regression
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate functions, features, and system performance
  • Design and implement test infrastructure to break down system level validation into sub-system level validation
  • Conduct failure analysis to understand root cause and drive resolution for failures originating in testing and from the field
  • Drive continuous improvement in design and performance by providing direct feedback to design owners
  • Engage in hands-on hardware bring-up and prototyping

Benefits

  • Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
