Job description

Tesla’s Battery Metals and Materials group is seeking a motivated technician to enhance the production of battery materials and their recycling processes. This role focuses on developing and scaling processes to improve the efficiency and environmental performance of battery material manufacturing. The technician will serve as the primary technical contact for various processing steps and assist in the daily operations of a lab/pilot facility. The position requires collaboration with multiple teams to ensure safety and quality in production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of hands-on research experience in metallurgy, inorganic chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering.
  • Quantifiable lab analytical experience.
  • Experience with wet chemistry treatment including elevated temperature and pressure autoclave leaching.
  • Hands-on experience with building process skids, agitated tanks, pumps, and piping.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to solve technical problems.
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with company regulations and policies while promoting a strong safety culture in the lab.
  • Collaborate with EHS on compliance, waste management, MOC, and chemical hygiene activities.
  • Establish R&D programs, test plans, and transfer process knowledge for high-intensity unit operations.
  • Design, build, procure, and commission lab/pilot scale unit operating systems.
  • Perform experimental data analysis and prepare technical presentations.
  • Translate process learnings into meaningful results for affiliated teams.
  • Collaborate with R&D, drafting, and mechanical teams to meet production and material quality targets.
  • Ensure day-to-day process operation is safe, organized, and efficient.
  • Participate in design and scale-up by documenting process learnings.
  • Support equipment selection, factory-acceptance trials, and commissioning of larger facilities.
