Job description

The Sr. Manufacturing Process Engineer, Robotics, is responsible for leading process design and industrialization efforts in the manufacturing of next-generation electric motors. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance product quality and manufacturing efficiency. The engineer will focus on high-speed stamping processes and automation integration to optimize production. A strong emphasis is placed on continuous improvement and adherence to Tesla's performance and sustainability standards.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing process engineering within high-volume production environments
  • Proven expertise in high-speed stamping and metal forming processes for motor laminations
  • Strong proficiency with process and tooling tools/software such as CAD/CAM and PLCs
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data analysis and continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
  • Knowledge of secondary lamination processes and quality metrology is highly desirable
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with occasional overtime or shift work
  • Willingness to travel as required for equipment/die supplier visits

Responsibilities

  • Develop, qualify, and optimize high-speed stamping processes for electric motor laminations
  • Specify, design/review, validate, and industrialize dies and tooling tailored to electrical steels
  • Integrate and optimize automation elements to achieve high throughput and consistent quality inspection
  • Troubleshoot process, tooling, press, and automation issues on the production floor
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on Design for Manufacturability and industrialization of new motor designs
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Tesla's sustainability goals
  • Support new product introduction and production ramp-up by transferring processes into manufacturing
  • Ensure full compliance with safety standards, quality systems, and regulatory requirements
