Job description
Tesla is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design efforts for innovative Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) projects. This role is crucial for developing next-generation production infrastructure that enhances manufacturing scale and efficiency. The position requires a proactive individual who can thrive in fast-paced environments and tackle complex challenges. The role is based in either Houston, TX or Austin, TX.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Minimum 10 years of HVAC and Process Systems design experience
- Registered and in good standing as a Professional Engineer (PE) with an active NCEES record and ability to acquire State PE license
- Professional design experience in various project types including industrial cooling tower systems, chiller plants, and high tech/R&D facilities
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems such as Dehumidification Units, Heat Exchangers, and Air Handling Units
- Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards
- Proficient in HVAC load calculations and various computer programs including AutoCAD and Revit
Responsibilities
- Lead all mechanical design and concept evaluations, completing construction drawings for permit and execution
- Manage multiple projects throughout planning, design, bid, and construction phases
- Interface with external EPC firms to ensure designs meet Engineering Standards
- Communicate project needs, changes, and status effectively to team members
- Develop and mentor less experienced engineering staff
- Present design concepts and progress at project milestones to stakeholders
- Develop quantity take-offs and assist with cost estimating for projects
- Apply engineering fundamentals to solve technical problems and create detailed designs
