Job description

The Supplier Quality team at Tesla is responsible for managing supplier quality issues and ensuring production lines are not disrupted. This role involves effective communication with internal and external teams, conducting failure analysis, and leading statistical process control activities. The main focus is on developing suppliers by teaching best practices in manufacturing and quality, while driving lean manufacturing principles to enhance efficiency. Team members will work closely with Factory and Supply Chain teams to resolve issues and improve overall quality.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of industry experience in quality, production, or manufacturing engineering departments
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with suppliers of closure mechanisms, including latches, hinges, strikers, sealing systems, and power liftgate/actuation systems
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5Why, and Ishikawa
  • Experience with leading manufacturing process and control plan audits
  • Strong leadership, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimal direction
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% throughout North America

Responsibilities

  • Ensure production lines are protected from disruptions due to supplier quality issues while driving actions with suppliers.
  • Conduct investigations to identify and confirm potential supplier quality issues and implement immediate countermeasures.
  • Issue and drive supplier corrective action requests (SCAR) to track supplier containment actions and root cause analysis.
  • Support part and packaging trials for new product launches and design changes.
  • Facilitate meetings with stakeholders to address supply chain and supplier quality issues.
  • Seek opportunities to improve processes and part quality while reducing costs.
  • Support containment, SCAR, and continuous improvement activities at supplier locations and Tesla sites.
