Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is focused on the qualification and scaling of battery cell materials at supplier locations. This role involves working closely with various internal and external teams to ensure the successful transition of new battery designs into full production. The ideal candidate will contribute significantly to the production of critical components for Tesla vehicles and storage systems. The work environment is fast-paced and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or Material Science and Engineering, or equivalent experience and 2+ years of industrial experience in battery material manufacturing process and quality control.
- Experience in characterizing powder materials properties.
- Experience in developing IPQC/OQC/IQC quality controls and metrology qualification for cell materials.
- Must be well versed in statistical data analysis and process capability analysis, including GRR, Cpk, yield, etc.
- Working knowledge of battery cell manufacturing requirements and cell performance requirements.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel – 30%.
Responsibilities
- Review, setup, qualify, and scale process flow for battery material manufacturing.
- Monitor production output at existing facilities and support expansion programs with existing suppliers.
- Setup in-process QC, OQC, and corresponding IQC material quality controls.
- Work together with suppliers on production process optimization and quality yield improvement.
- Support material and production-related failure analysis at supplier locations.
- Manage project activities at supplier locations and ensure all required milestones are met on time.
- Act as a technical contact point for battery material manufacturing processes and coordinate activities within internal and external teams.
- Interface with Tesla manufacturing personnel to resolve identified issues and provide technical assistance.
