The role is part of Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team, focusing on the selection, qualification, and scaling of battery cell materials, particularly cell electrodes. The position involves close collaboration with various internal and external organizations to transition new battery designs from concept to full production. The work environment is fast-paced and demanding, requiring a highly motivated individual ready to contribute significantly to Tesla's products. The ideal candidate will engage in technical processes and project management at supplier locations.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical, Material, Mechanical or equivalent engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in battery cell electrode manufacturing process and quality control.
- Experience in characterizing materials using techniques like TGA, DSC, Viscometer, moisture analysis, SEM, EDS, etc.
- Experience in developing OQC/IQC quality controls and metrology qualification for cell electrodes.
- Well versed in statistical data analysis and process capability analysis.
- Solid knowledge of battery cell manufacturing and physical mechanisms.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Experience in high volume manufacturing is desired.
- Ability to travel – 35%.
Responsibilities
- Review, setup, qualify, and scale process flow for battery cell electrode manufacturing.
- Monitor production output at existing facilities and support expansion programs with existing suppliers.
- Setup in-process, OQC, and corresponding IQC material quality controls.
- Qualify capacity expansion for existing cell electrode products.
- Drive electrode related failure analysis at supplier locations.
- Project manage activities at supplier locations to ensure milestones are met for Tesla product qualification.
- Act as a technical contact point for battery cell electrode manufacturing processes.
