Job description
As a Senior Reliability Engineer at Tesla, you will be integral in ensuring the reliability of Tesla's Charging products throughout their lifecycle. Your role will involve investigating failures, applying statistical analyses, and collaborating with design teams to enhance product robustness. You will also be responsible for setting reliability targets and facilitating design reviews to communicate risks effectively. This position requires a strong understanding of reliability engineering principles and the ability to influence design choices for improved product performance.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical or Material Engineering or related field and +2 years of industry experience in a reliability engineering role, or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of accelerated testing methods, governing equations, and physics of failure for different failure mechanisms.
- Understanding of applied statistics and reliability statistics, including Weibull distribution and Monte Carlo analysis.
- Knowledge of the ReliaSoft or JMP Synthesis Platform, including Weibull++, BlockSim, ALTA, RGA, and xFMEA.
- Knowledge of methods to design-in reliability using electronic and mechanical computer-aided engineering data.
- Working knowledge of programming languages, preferably Python.
- Strong communication skills and experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of reliability growth techniques, such as Crow-AMSAA and Crow Extended is a plus.
- Knowledge of reliability warranty analysis and reliability prediction methods.
- Experience working with complex electronic and mechanical systems.
Responsibilities
- Set and communicate reliability requirements and targets for site, product, subsystem, and components.
- Create Fault Trees and reliability block diagrams to assess system reliability and warranty analysis.
- Facilitate Design FMEA sessions to drive reliable design choices and improve validation test programs.
- Analyze usage and environmental conditions from the field to improve requirement setting and testing methods.
- Apply statistical analysis to test and field data to inform reliability physics modeling and associated corrective actions.
- Work closely with Design and Reliability Data engineers to create, interpret, and validate numeric models of products.
- Specify reliability validation plans for components and subsystems using physics of failure.
- Drive reliability assessments in product design reviews and communicate risk at each phase of product development.
- Facilitate failure analysis to understand root causes and drive resolution of failures during product development.
- Influence supplier selection for higher reliability and provide guidance on reliability requirements.
Benefits
- Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
