Job description
The Innovation & Design Engineer in the Service Supply Chain organization at Tesla will lead the design and development of service distribution centers across the East and West Coast. This role focuses on optimizing existing distribution centers while creating innovative concepts to support Tesla's expanding product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in warehouse design and industrial engineering, with experience in taking large-scale distribution centers from concept to operational launch. The position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure efficient and effective facility designs.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience designing and launching large-scale distribution centers.
- Strong warehouse design background with demonstrated industrial engineering fundamentals.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D facility design and layout tools such as AutoCAD or Revit.
- Experience with material handling systems and automation technologies.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects across design, construction, and operations teams.
- Familiarity with slotting strategies and space utilization modeling.
- Familiarity with WMS systems in a distribution center environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use operational data to drive design decisions.
- Experience in automotive or high-velocity distribution environments is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Pioneer next-generation DC design concepts to support Tesla's growth.
- Lead end-to-end design of new service distribution centers from concept to operational launch.
- Own densification and optimization projects across the existing DC network.
- Develop and maintain facility design documentation and handbooks.
- Create 2D and 3D visualizations demonstrating warehouse space utilization.
- Partner with real estate, construction, and architecture teams during site selection and permitting.
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain planning, and engineering teams for scalable facility design solutions.
- Evaluate and integrate advanced automation technologies into DC design.
- Conduct benchmarking and competitive analysis to ensure best-in-class DC network.
