Job description

The Tesla Energy Products Field Quality team is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to connect large-scale fleet data with system-based modeling and analytical efforts across various Tesla Energy products. This role involves building foundational data and AI/ML systems that support engineering teams in understanding fleet behavior and improving model accuracy. The engineer will quantify fleet performance, establish data standards, and collaborate across disciplines to enhance system knowledge and integration. The position requires a strong quantitative background and a passion for tackling complex problems.

Requirements

  • Strong quantitative foundation in physics, applied math, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong machine learning fundamentals including model development, training, and evaluation.
  • Experience with physics-informed or scientific machine learning techniques.
  • Proficiency in Python within a scientific or machine learning context.
  • Experience with uncertainty quantification, probabilistic modeling, and time-series analysis.
  • Comfort with large-scale data and the necessary data pipelines and tooling.
  • Familiarity with software fundamentals including version control and CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop machine learning and statistical methods to enhance understanding of fleet behavior.
  • Build a unified fleet data layer and ingestion foundation for system teams.
  • Model the gap between expected and observed fleet behavior to provide actionable insights.
  • Quantify uncertainty to enable teams to assess risk with statistical rigor.
  • Establish consistent AI/ML and data standards across systems engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to evolve knowledge, methods, and integrations.

Benefits

  • Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
