Job description

Meta is seeking a Lead Building Engineer to join the Data Center Facility Operations team, responsible for operating and maintaining critical systems in a 30MW data center. This individual contributor role involves oversight of maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with procedures, and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the data center's operations. The Lead Building Engineer will report to a Critical Operations Manager and will be expected to provide technical expertise and training to the team. The ideal candidate will have experience in various technical maintenance fields and a strong commitment to safety and efficiency.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or other technical maintenance field.
  • Associate's Degree in engineering plus 5+ years experience or Bachelor's degree in related field plus 3+ years experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or controls.
  • Proficient with maintenance management programs.
  • Proficient with computer systems including documents, spreadsheets, and email.
  • Ability to regularly walk job site areas of flat and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to work at varying heights and from ladders.
  • Ability to lift and/or otherwise move 45 pounds or more.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the work for a 30MW+ data center to ensure schedule deconfliction, work priority, maintenance compliance, procedural compliance, and team readiness.
  • Schedule and supervise vendors/subcontractors during equipment/systems maintenance and service.
  • Perform hands-on operations and maintenance to ensure the highest levels of uptime, efficiency, and safety.
  • Review all operating procedures and serve as final approval authority on some procedures.
  • Support incident management, root cause analysis, and corrective action closure for operational issues.
  • Achieve and maintain a high level of technical knowledge regarding data center infrastructure and operations.
  • Provide in-the-field training to Critical Facility Engineers and support the identification of training needs.
  • Ensure the accuracy of work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Collaborate with peer Lead Building Engineers to deconflict work across campus.
  • Regularly inspect equipment, buildings, safety routes, and grounds to identify any abnormal or unsafe conditions.
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate, and recommend system upgrades.
  • Order parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs through internal tooling.
  • Escalate issues to facility management appropriately and timely.
