The Launch Engineer for New Product Introduction at Tesla is responsible for managing operations related to major changes in the factory. This role involves leading a cross-functional team to ensure that engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain targets are met. The engineer will oversee factory readiness and the tactical implementation of programs into production. A focus on seamless transitions and effective communication at all levels is essential for success in this position.
Requirements
- Production operations knowledge with an understanding of complex production lines.
- Background in electronics or electrical engineering, manufacturing or industrial engineering, and supply chain is highly desired.
- Understanding of the manufacturing validation process related to complex new products.
- Ability to devise creative solutions to complicated problems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Previous experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Previous experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings or CAD models.
- Experience in project or program management.
- Degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
- Oversee factory operations to meet program milestones with a non-event launch mentality.
- Lead cross-functional forums to provide status updates and develop recovery plans.
- Ensure manufacturing validation and supply chain readiness for a seamless handover to production planning.
- Plan and organize pre-launch build activities and facilitate ramp management.
- Manage post-program introduction activities to ensure a successful launch.
- Oversee the finalization and validation of the MBOM for the program.
- Validate all factory systems regarding launch preparation.
- Consider environment, health, and safety in all activities.
- Ensure NPI processes are followed in all activities.
- Organize and follow up on open points and actions required for a successful program introduction.
- Interact and drive results across cross-functional teams.
- Author project status, summary, and issue resolution tracking reports.
- Perform various other activities as assigned to support NPI and operational departments.
