Job description

As an Image Scientist on the Camera & Depth Architecture team, you will focus on designing and developing high-throughput simulation frameworks to generate synthetic imagery for camera systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define hardware specifications and performance metrics. The role emphasizes creating innovative solutions for camera technology, enhancing user experiences in photography and imaging. Your expertise in imaging, computer vision, or rendering will be crucial in guiding product design and architecture.

Requirements

  • BS degree and a minimum of 3+ years relevant industry experience in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Programming experience in at least one of the following languages: C, C++, Python, or Matlab.
  • Experience with imaging system design, computer vision, computational imaging, or similar fields.
  • Experience with algorithms for image quality enhancement.
  • MS or PhD degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field with relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in project management and driving projects independently in ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Published research in imaging, computational photography, or computer vision.
  • Experience with camera sensor physics, noise modeling, or radiometry.
  • Experience with synthetic data generation for ML training pipelines and model optimization.
  • Experience with GPU computing (CUDA, OpenCL) or distributed processing at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-throughput simulation frameworks for synthetic imagery.
  • Build and refine models of camera systems from sensor to lens.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define hardware design specifications.
  • Generate large volumes of synthetic imagery on-demand.
  • Guide the design and architecture of products, including AR/VR features.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
