Job description

The CPU Performance Architect role at Google involves developing custom silicon solutions that enhance the performance and efficiency of Google's products. The team focuses on pushing technological boundaries by integrating AI, software, and hardware to create innovative computing experiences. This position requires deep expertise in performance analysis and microarchitectural design, contributing to the next generation of hardware. The architect will work closely with CPU architects and cross-functional teams to set realistic performance goals for future silicon.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with performance analysis, microarchitectural bottleneck isolation, and workload characterization.
  • Experience with C/C++ for architectural modeling and Python for data analysis and automation frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead deep-dive microarchitectural analysis on silicon to identify and resolve pipeline stalls and memory hierarchy bottlenecks.
  • Design, build, and execute advanced power and performance experiments on physical silicon to correlate pre-silicon projections with post-silicon reality.
  • Develop and maintain early-stage power and performance models to evaluate complex architectural scenarios.
  • Collaborate with lead CPU architects and cross-functional teams to define power and performance goals for future Google silicon.
