Job description

The Sr. Embedded Software Development Engineer will focus on building and optimizing firmware for Ring's smart home devices. The role requires a passion for writing clean, efficient code and experience across the full embedded software stack. The ideal candidate will be comfortable debugging complex hardware-software interactions and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across distributed teams are essential.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
  • 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
  • 7+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for Ring devices running on RTOS and Linux-based platforms
  • Own end-to-end debugging and root-cause analysis of system-level issues impacting device performance and customer experience
  • Drive technical decisions on embedded software architecture, balancing performance and maintainability
  • Lead design and code reviews, championing engineering best practices
  • Mentor junior engineers through hands-on technical guidance and knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with hardware, cloud, mobile, and product teams to define requirements
  • Proactively identify and address systemic issues affecting device reliability and user satisfaction
  • Implement diagnostic tooling, metrics, and monitoring to improve system observability
