Job description

The Power & Hardware Design Engineer role at Amazon focuses on driving the standardization and innovation of power distribution and hardware solutions within the global fulfillment center network. This position requires deep technical expertise in power systems design and hardware development for complex material handling systems. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to deliver robust solutions while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. The role is part of the One Material Handling Systems (OneMHS) team, which is dedicated to enhancing Amazon's material handling capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of experience in power systems design, electrical engineering, and/or hardware development.
  • Proven expertise in 3-phase power system design and power distribution for industrial or commercial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and specification of Main Distribution Boards (MDBs), Power Distribution Panels (PDPs), and electrical substations.
  • Proficiency in performing arc flash calculations and hazard analysis per IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E.

Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, and optimize 3-phase power systems and power distribution for industrial and commercial material handling applications.
  • Develop and maintain arc flash labeling programs and ensure compliance across all electrical equipment.
  • Analyze utilities data to identify trends and optimize power consumption.
  • Perform hardware design and development of electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Ensure all designs comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other applicable standards.
