Job description

The Hardware Development Engineer I (HDE I) role focuses on the research, design, and development of electrical and controls sub-components for material handling systems. This entry-level position allows engineers to solve hardware-related engineering problems with guidance from senior team members while gaining hands-on experience in power distribution and controls design. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver quality designs and learn industry standards. This role is perfect for early-career engineers passionate about customer-focused design and eager to contribute to innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems, and systems experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle.
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and real-time systems.
  • Familiarity with UL 508A panel design standards or NFPA 70E.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of electrical sub-components for power and controls systems.
  • Support the development of electrical layouts, schematics, and panel designs under guidance.
  • Learn to apply modular and scalable design principles that prioritize reliability and performance.
  • Build and test prototypes of electrical and controls sub-components to validate designs.
  • Evaluate designs through analysis and testing, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Work effectively with product managers and engineering peers on design discussions.
  • Document research and design decisions clearly for future engineers.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
