Job description

The AMD SerDes Technology team is seeking a SerDes Firmware Engineer who is passionate about low-level firmware and has a solid understanding of electrical and optical physical-layer systems. This role involves designing and developing firmware that connects high-speed electrical SerDes with silicon photonics and optical subsystems. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure robust control, calibration, and optimization of next-generation SerDes solutions. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively across multiple domains.

Requirements

  • Strong system intuition and a hands-on mindset
  • Experience in low-level firmware development
  • Knowledge of physical layer specifications in PCIe and IEEE 802.3
  • Prior experience in the semiconductor industry
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and debug embedded firmware for high-speed SerDes systems across electrical and optical domains.
  • Implement firmware control for silicon photonic components such as modulators, photodetectors, and lasers.
  • Develop firmware interfaces for electrical SerDes PHYs, including configuration and diagnostics.
  • Define and implement calibration and closed-loop control algorithms for system optimization.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to define control and telemetry requirements.
  • Integrate firmware with lab test infrastructure and support validation and manufacturing.
  • Support silicon bring-up, debug, and performance tuning throughout various phases.

Benefits

  • AMD provides a competitive 'Total Rewards' package that focuses on financial growth, health, and work-life balance.
