Job description
As a Hardware Development Engineer II on the Amazon Robotics team, you will design and develop electromechanical hardware for robotic systems used in fulfillment centers. This role involves working with a diverse team of engineers to ensure robust and cost-effective hardware solutions. You will manage the entire product lifecycle from concept to field support, balancing new product development with sustaining engineering tasks. The position requires hands-on engineering skills and a commitment to quality and safety standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Experience with prototyping and implementation.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools.
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Work with an interdisciplinary team to improve and maintain existing product designs.
- Design parts for volume manufacturing methods while understanding trade-offs.
- Apply Design for Excellence principles throughout the design process.
- Write requirements and functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings per GD&T standards.
- Develop and deliver high-quality design artifacts including CAD models and test plans.
- Collaborate with Operations and Manufacturing to ensure smooth production transitions.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through material optimization and design simplification.
- Own cradle-to-grave lifecycle support for fielded hardware.
- Investigate field failures and implement design improvements.
- Support fulfillment center operations teams with technical guidance.
- Design hardware in compliance with applicable machine safety standards.
- Participate in risk assessments and safety validation activities.
- Operate within an Agile Product Lifecycle framework.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to team hiring processes.
