Job description

As a Hardware Development Engineer II on the Amazon Robotics team, you will design and develop electromechanical hardware for robotic systems used in fulfillment centers. This role involves working with a diverse team of engineers to ensure robust and cost-effective hardware solutions. You will manage the entire product lifecycle from concept to field support, balancing new product development with sustaining engineering tasks. The position requires hands-on engineering skills and a commitment to quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools.
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with an interdisciplinary team to improve and maintain existing product designs.
  • Design parts for volume manufacturing methods while understanding trade-offs.
  • Apply Design for Excellence principles throughout the design process.
  • Write requirements and functional specifications, design verification plans, and test procedures.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings per GD&T standards.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality design artifacts including CAD models and test plans.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Manufacturing to ensure smooth production transitions.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through material optimization and design simplification.
  • Own cradle-to-grave lifecycle support for fielded hardware.
  • Investigate field failures and implement design improvements.
  • Support fulfillment center operations teams with technical guidance.
  • Design hardware in compliance with applicable machine safety standards.
  • Participate in risk assessments and safety validation activities.
  • Operate within an Agile Product Lifecycle framework.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to team hiring processes.
