Job description
The Senior Datacenter Engineer at Google focuses on defining system-level architecture and product strategy for next-generation data centers. This role involves conducting engineering analysis and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring that all designs meet specified requirements. The position is part of the Google Cloud team, which aims to accelerate digital transformation for organizations globally. The engineer will also implement process improvements for critical infrastructure projects to enhance operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of progressive experience in Datacenter Engineering-related occupations.
- Alternatively, a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field with 3 years of experience in the job offered or in a Datacenter Engineering-related occupation.
- 3 years of experience in data center architecture and system design.
- Experience applying engineering tools and analytical methods to verify system design.
- Experience in implementing Controls engineering, including control system programming.
Responsibilities
- Define system-level architecture and product strategy for next-generation data centers.
- Conduct engineering analysis and research innovative designs for data center equipment and facilities.
- Mentor junior electrical engineers in the region and the overall Google Data Centers program.
- Develop and document standard operating and maintenance procedures for critical systems.
- Collaborate with Operations teams and engineers for retrofits and critical issues' resolution.
- Implement process improvements across critical infrastructure projects to boost operational efficiency.
- Validate that all designs and installations meet specified cooling, structural, and performance requirements.
- Apply controls engineering principles to design and implement automated mission-critical systems.
- Collaborate with equipment engineers and program design engineers for all modifications and design changes on projects.
- Travel regionally at least 50% of the time to various unanticipated worksites.
