Amazon Robotics is looking for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to join the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team in Westborough, MA. This role focuses on overseeing the transition of complex robotic systems from design to production while applying Design for Excellence principles. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally to influence product designs, manage product lifecycle changes, and ensure manufacturing readiness. This position requires a hands-on approach to problem-solving and collaboration with various teams across Amazon.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in Industrial, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or other related discipline
- 8+ years of experience including new product introduction (NPI) experience
- Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components
- Broad manufacturing commodity background in Mechanical and Electrical fields
- Familiarity with industry standard tools for problem solving and risk management
- Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration or a related field is preferred
- Deep commodity experience with DC Gearmotors, Plastics, Metals, Printed Circuit Board Assemblies, Sensors, Cameras, and Cables
- Experience with SPC, Gauge R&R, and PFMEA/DFMEA methodologies
- Familiarity with PLM systems and engineering change management processes
- Experience with complex automated material handling equipment and high-speed manufacturing
Responsibilities
- Provide Design for Excellence guidance and feedback on electromechanical designs during concept and detailed design phases
- Guide best practices on manufacturing tolerances using GD&T
- Launch tooling with accelerated schedules and assess project risk
- Review external production processes, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
- Qualify production processes based on dimensional data and process capability requirements
- Drive internal and external PFMEA and DFMEA reviews
- Solve technical problems across a broad set of manufacturing commodities
- Guide manufacturing readiness assessments for NPI programs through production ramp
- Evaluate and approve Engineering Change Orders across mechanical and electrical commodities
- Evaluate production, supplier, and field failures for root cause analysis and resolution
- Mentor team members and design engineers on producibility best practices
- Propose design changes to enhance product sustainability and scalability
- Shepherd Statistical Process Control implementation at suppliers and conduct process capability studies
- Travel up to 30% as required
