Job description
The Supply Chain Cost Engineer will support the Direct Global Procurement team by developing should-cost models and analytical tools to inform spending decisions. This role requires collaboration across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Design Engineering, and Finance, providing exposure to various vehicle systems and commodities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate analytical rigor and strategic thinking, focusing on cost improvements while maintaining quality and performance. A successful candidate will be technically strong, innovative, and able to communicate complex topics simply.
Requirements
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of experience in product cost engineering in a fast-paced manufacturing or tech environment
- Strong analytical skills in cost modeling, financial analysis, and data-driven decisions
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, material costs, and direct procurement
- Strong verbal, written, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Proven problem-solver with a results-oriented track record of measurable cost savings
- Experience with should-costing and visualization tools like aPriori, Tableau, Power BI, etc.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine bottom-up should-cost models across different manufacturing processes and products
- Identify cost drivers across the supply chain using deep process knowledge of CapEx, labor, materials, and other inputs
- Lead value engineering with engineering and supply chain to optimize materials, processes, and designs for cost
- Build and maintain cost and spend databases at CapEx and component level for visibility
- Partner with program management, engineering, supply chain, and finance to set and hit cost targets
- Track program spend, report budget status and variances, and standardize cost-down reporting
- Drive continuous improvement by sharing best practices and mentoring on cost engineering methods
