Job description
Tesla is looking for a Process Development Engineer to innovate and optimize manufacturing processes for its advanced dry battery program. This role involves working on the next-generation 4680 cell program, focusing on electrode manufacturing within a collaborative engineering team. The engineer will be responsible for the entire development lifecycle, from concept to high-volume production. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to critical components in Tesla's vehicles and energy storage systems.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in process development, manufacturing engineering, or similar
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards process development
- Proven problem solver with experience in data driven root cause analysis
- Demonstrated capabilities in manufacturing process development for new and unique products
- Experience in areas such as roll-to-roll coating, calendering, roll compaction, lamination, dry powder processing, industrial chemical processing, battery manufacturing and characterization is highly desired
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize electrode manufacturing processes for newly introduced materials and electrode designs
- Develop and scale up innovative electrode manufacturing processes and equipment from concept validation to high-volume production
- Improve process capabilities through design of experiments and critical data analysis
- Characterize existing processes and establish controls for critical parameters
- Build process documentation to define the process for cross-functional teams
- Drive process commissioning on new equipment and manufacturing lines
