Job description

The Self-Driving Hardware team at Tesla is focused on designing the computing hardware that enables autonomous driving capabilities in vehicles and humanoid robots. This role involves high-speed board design and the integration of customized neural engine silicon to achieve performance and efficiency goals. The position requires collaboration with various teams to ensure that hardware meets specifications and is validated for production. Candidates will be responsible for end-to-end circuit board design and documentation.

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience is required.
  • Candidates must have 2+ years of relevant circuit board design experience.
  • Demonstrated depth in end-to-end PCBA design is necessary.
  • Strong experience in high-speed board design exceeding 5Gbps is required.
  • Knowledge of interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, MIPI, and Ethernet is essential.
  • Experience with high-performance processor, memory, storage, and network IO for complex motherboard design is needed.
  • A good understanding of analog and power circuits, including MOSFETs and op-amps, is required.
  • Proficiency with EE tools such as oscilloscopes and network analyzers is necessary.
  • Experience in shipping high-volume electronics products is required.
  • Understanding of neural networks and transformer AI models is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of hardware including specification, architecture, design, simulation, schematics, layout supervision, prototype, and validation.
  • Design electrical architecture, electronic circuits, processor selection and integration, system timing, and bus loading.
  • Collaborate with PCB layout, firmware, reliability, program management, mechanical, and EMC teams.
  • Document design requirements, calculations, and power budgets thoroughly.
  • Create validation plans and verify all features and interfaces across corners.
  • Design for manufacturing, testing, and EMC compliance.

Benefits

  • Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
