Job description
The Staff Manufacturing Engineer position is a key role within the Global Manufacturing Engineering Team at Tesla. This position focuses on leading Design for Manufacturing (DFM) studies and collaborating with vendors on new die builds. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in forming and die build, along with strong problem-solving and project leadership skills. The goal is to deliver high-quality stamped parts at scale while ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
- 12+ years tooling engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment with a strong focus on formability, die build, and execution
- Proficient in Design for Manufacturing studies, including Class A and Battery Parts
- Deep knowledge of Aluminum Class A, BIW, and Closures experience with proficiency in Die Design and build of stamping Dies
- In-depth knowledge of GD&T and BIW assembly processes
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
- Familiarity with production and quality control procedures
- Strong time management and project coordination abilities
- Understanding of material properties for steel and aluminum
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple cross-functional teams and suppliers
Responsibilities
- Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) studies by conducting and reviewing forming simulations and working closely with the Studio and Engineering Design team
- Collaborate with vendors on new die builds by reviewing simulation, Die Process, Die Design, Manufacturing, Buyoff, and Homelining
- Provide technical input for planning and installation of new equipment
- Work with the materials team on planning for new programs and addressing quality investigations
- Ensure quality, performance, and delivery targets are achieved prior to die shipping by managing vendor relationships
- Manage project schedules, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure all necessary activities are in place to meet deadlines
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams for discussions and planning of new programs
