Job description

The Reliability Engineer will join the vehicle system reliability team, focusing on vehicle body, suspension, and wheel systems. This role involves designing reliability for various vehicle platforms, including Robotaxi and Semi, and following the reliability lifecycle from concept to field operation. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks and create test plans to assess product reliability. A passion for engineering and the ability to deliver results under pressure are essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience working on complex mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems related to body, suspension, and wheel systems
  • In-depth understanding of material properties and failure mechanisms for metals, polymers, and structural components
  • Experience with fatigue testing, vibration testing, and durability test development for chassis systems
  • Experience with burn-in testing, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), and Ongoing Reliability Testing (ORT)
  • Degree in Reliability Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of ReliaSoft Synthesis Platform, including Weibull++, BlockSim, ALTA, RGA
  • Understanding of reliability warranty analysis and reliability prediction methods
  • Working knowledge of applied statistics and experience with statistical software such as JMP, Minitab
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning and EDX
  • Strong problem-solving skills and thorough understanding of mechanical test setups

Responsibilities

  • Apply solid knowledge of reliability methods and body, suspension, and wheel systems to design accelerated test plans for design validation and demonstration of reliability growth
  • Analyze field usage and environmental conditions to optimize requirement setting and test methods
  • Facilitate and lead design FMEA sessions to assess product risks, determine validation test plans and drive reliable design choices
  • Work with manufacturing quality, service engineering, supplier quality and design teams to identify root causes and drive resolution for failures originating in testing and in the field
  • Generate process validation test plans to implement at suppliers and drive root cause corrective action with suppliers to resolve production process issues
  • Provide reliability design guidelines and apply reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement
