Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Process Development Engineer to lead R&D and early production process development for the Optimus hand, a complex humanoid robot subsystem. This role focuses on developing novel manufacturing techniques for tendon routing, tactile sensor fabrication, and integrating soft goods for enhanced interaction. The engineer will own processes from concept to production, ensuring cost, quality, and throughput targets are met. This position requires a hands-on approach and collaboration with various teams to drive innovative solutions.

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on manufacturing process development experience.
• Direct experience developing processes in tendon, cable, or flexible routing systems.
• Experience with polymer thermoforming or textile assembly processes.
• Strong capability in tooling design, CAD, GD&T, and experimental methods.

• Develop and optimize novel manufacturing processes for the tendon-driven architecture of the Optimus hand.
• Lead process development for advanced tactile sensing hardware.
• Create and scale processes for glove, textile, and soft covering integration.
• Design, build, and iterate custom tooling and process equipment.
• Execute Design of Experiments (DOE) and establish robust process controls.
• Collaborate with mechanical design and other teams to provide DFM input.
• Own process documentation and support prototype builds.
• Conduct raw material selection and vendor qualification.
• Drive cost, cycle time, and reliability improvements for production readiness.
