Job description

The Manager, Engineering & Maintenance at Tesla is responsible for ensuring the uptime and continuous improvement of equipment used in the production of the Model 3. This role involves leading a team of associate managers, maintenance supervisors, technicians, and engineers in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The focus is on maintaining automated manufacturing equipment and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in problem-solving and talent development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of maintenance experience in industrial settings, with 3+ years in a leadership role overseeing teams.
  • Proven expertise in maintaining highly automated systems, including Siemens/Allen Bradley PLCs and Fanuc robots.
  • Strong proficiency with CMMS (FLUX) software and data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a track record of reducing downtime through innovative solutions.
  • Experience deploying TPM pillars: autonomous maintenance, planned maintenance, focused improvement.
  • Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily maintenance activities across multiple shifts 24/7 to ensure efficient operation and uptime of automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop associate managers, supervisors, technicians, and engineers to enhance technical skills and leadership capabilities.
  • Implement and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Manage maintenance costs, spare parts inventory, and overtime to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and automation issues using root-cause analysis to resolve recurring problems.
  • Partner closely with process, equipment, and manufacturing engineering, and production teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support new line commissioning, ramp, and rate-step changes for new product introductions in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a zero-incident workplace culture.
