Job description
We are looking for a motivated electrical engineer to join the Powertrain Manufacturing Controls team at our Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. This role focuses on developing manufacturing lines for components such as motors, batteries, and power electronics. The engineer will ensure compliance with electrical standards and collaborate with various teams and vendors. This hands-on position requires expertise in electrical design and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience designing electrical schematics for industrial machinery in AutoCAD or EPLAN
- Experience with EPLAN Engineering Configuration (EEC) is a strong plus
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or machine builder environment
- Design experience with 480VAC power distribution panels and 24VDC PLC control panels
- Hands-on troubleshooting and repairing electro-mechanical devices
- Proficiency with common hand tools and diagnostic instruments
Responsibilities
- Design new equipment in EPLAN and develop standard templates and macros for partners and vendors
- Review and update standard components to meet evolving cost and lead time requirements
- Review electrical and pneumatic designs prior to start of build, ensuring adherence to NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL 508A
- Perform sizing calculations for local facility requirements and determine arc-flash safety and labeling requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, sustaining, facilities, and IT
- Lead supplier design reviews and factory acceptance testing
- Perform hands-on work and coordinate across internal teams to successfully land production lines
