Job description

As a Senior Test Engineer at Tesla, you will focus on mechanical and thermal systems to enhance the reliability of Tesla Energy's products. This role involves collaborating with various teams to ensure optimal product design and performance throughout the product lifecycle. You will conduct hands-on testing, develop automated test equipment, and analyze data to identify design and process failures. Your contributions will be crucial in delivering a best-in-class customer experience.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in hardware design validation, hardware testing, and instrumentation
  • Experience designing and fabricating custom test platforms and fixtures
  • Knowledge of programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis, preferably Python
  • Experience specifying sensors for test instrumentation and utilizing data acquisition systems
  • Experience working safely with high voltage equipment up to 1kV
  • Experience using CAD software for custom test fixture design
  • Proven ability to develop reliability tests including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing

Responsibilities

  • Lead test engineering activities for mechanical and thermal systems including enclosures and thermal actuators
  • Design and execute product and component level reliability testing with real hardware
  • Build and implement next-gen hardware and software test systems for reliable design characterization
  • Determine energy product test strategies that optimize for product reliability and program schedules
  • Conduct test data and failure analysis and communicate results clearly
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design and reliability engineers
  • Train Technicians and Engineers to operate and troubleshoot test equipment
  • Comply with safety policies and regulations
