Job description

The BIW Equipment Joining Engineer is a vital member of the Data Center Engineering team, focusing on providing guidance and documentation to operations teams in BIW shops. The role emphasizes diagnosing and resolving equipment failures, optimizing joining processes, and implementing preventive maintenance practices. Candidates will thrive in a fast-paced environment, utilizing their problem-solving skills to enhance operational efficiency. This position offers flexible AWS shift patterns, accommodating both day and night shifts.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in joining technologies and manufacturing systems
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with BIW automotive joining processes, including self-piercing riveting and MIG welding
  • Familiarity with weld controllers and robotic interfaces for spot welding
  • Proficient in downtime tracking and root cause analysis documentation
  • Full hands-on understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems within joining equipment
  • Experience with MIG welding circuits and joint development
  • Proven experience with KUKA and Fanuc robotics for daily joining operations
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of resolving conflict constructively
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Respond to production downtime by diagnosing and resolving failures in joining equipment and weld circuits
  • Lead end-to-end resolution of joining process faults through root cause analysis
  • Maintain manual and robotic joining processes to improve equipment longevity and process quality
  • Optimize KUKA-based welding and joining systems to diagnose and correct issues
  • Support manufacturing engineering CapEx projects from testing through installation and validation
  • Develop and deliver technical training for maintenance, production, and engineering teams
  • Troubleshoot chronic equipment failures and complex breakdowns with hands-on support
  • Establish and execute validation criteria for spot and MIG welds using quality report data
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, production, and maintenance teams
