Job description

The Controls Engineering Intern at Tesla will work under the guidance of Controls Engineers to develop, design, and program control systems for new equipment in production. This role is part of a team focused on creating automation equipment and assembly lines, contributing to Tesla's innovative production processes. Interns will gain hands-on experience while working on critical subsystems in a fast-paced environment. The position is available in multiple locations including Austin, TX, and Fremont, CA, and requires full-time, on-site commitment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
  • Coursework in analog and digital circuits, control systems, logic, and programming
  • Exposure to programming microcontrollers
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, CATIA, or SolidWorks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Experience with industrial electrical panel design and PLC programming is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lay out new industrial electrical control panels that are compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A standards
  • Develop and debug ladder logic PLC code with an emphasis on organization and documentation
  • Interface with conveyors, robots, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
  • Implement control reliable safety systems for safeguarding machinery
  • Generate HMI screens for complex machinery while ensuring troubleshooting feedback
  • Commission vision cameras for part inspection and guidance of machinery
  • Manage and implement small machine projects from start to finish
