Tesla is looking for a Controls & Automation Engineer to design and commission advanced automated lines for the Optimus Gears program. The successful candidate will focus on either Controls Engineering or Vision Engineering, leading the deployment of their chosen technical track. This role requires a strong background in industrial automation and the ability to travel domestically and internationally. The engineer will work on software development, commissioning, and continuous automation improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics discipline, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of hands-on industrial automation experience supporting automated manufacturing launches
- Proven mastery programming industrial control systems using Beckhoff, Siemens, or Allen-Bradley PLCs
- Deep understanding of industrial fieldbus protocols such as EtherCAT, Profinet, or Ethernet/IP and safety networking
- Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and tuning Cognex or Keyence vision systems
- Exceptional troubleshooting and commissioning skills with a solid foundation in industrial robotics and advanced motion control
Responsibilities
- Design, program, and debug robust PLC and HMI software applications for complex manufacturing equipment and motion control platforms
- Integrate and optimize multi-axis robotics, high-performance servo systems, and safety control architectures
- Support MES integration for full product traceability
- Support machine vision implementation and validation
- Execute Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) to debug logic, validate safety circuits, and secure structural line buy-off
- Drive continuous automation improvements to optimize cycle times and equipment OEE
