The Engineering Consultant – Mechanical/HVAC at Elanco will be part of the Engineering team, focusing on the design, reliability, and continuous improvement of facility utilities and HVAC systems at the Fort Dodge manufacturing site. This role involves leading capital projects and providing expertise in HVAC and mechanical systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory and engineering standards. The position emphasizes fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment that drives innovation and creativity. The consultant will also support continuous improvement initiatives and technical troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field with 2 years of relevant experience, or an associate's degree in a related field with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting mechanical, HVAC, facility utilities, capital projects, or engineering systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering-related software or control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support capital projects involving HVAC, mechanical utilities, piping systems, and clean room design from planning through commissioning and startup.
  • Author and review engineering documentation including User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS), feasibility studies, drawings, specifications, and qualification documents.
  • Oversee project execution by reviewing contractor submittals, monitoring installation quality, managing project schedules and budgets, and ensuring right-first-time project delivery.
  • Maintain HVAC systems in a validated cGxP state by supporting compliance with regulatory requirements, Elanco engineering standards, and industry best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement and utility optimization initiatives while providing technical support and troubleshooting for mechanical and HVAC systems.

Benefits

  • Employees at Elanco are often offered competitive compensation with annual bonus and equity eligibility, retirement plans (including a U.S. 401(k)), and comprehensive health coverage—medical, dental, vision, company-paid life and disability—and even pet insurance. Time-off and flexibility typically include generous PTO, U.S. mid-year and year-end paid shutdown weeks, parental leave, and flexible/remote work options. Employees also benefit from strong development programs (onboarding, course libraries, mentorship, nine ERGs, and tiered leadership programs) that support both professional growth and community involvement.
