Job description
Netflix is seeking two engineering managers to lead teams focused on page construction and title ranking algorithms, which are crucial for personalizing member experiences. The page construction team determines the layout and sections of a member's homepage, while the title ranking team predicts the relevance of titles for members. Both teams work closely together to create a cohesive personalization experience. The role involves leading AI research scientists and engineers, setting technical vision, and driving infrastructure decisions.
Requirements
- Experience leading applied ML, ML engineering, or applied science teams on large-scale ranking, recommendation, or personalization models.
- Strong technical depth in recommender systems, ranking, or slate/page-level optimization.
- A track record guiding teams through major technical transitions.
- Strong product instincts to connect technical decisions to member experience outcomes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A track record building and leading diverse, high-performing technical teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of AI research scientists and engineers focused on either page construction or title ranking.
- Set the technical vision and roadmap for your team, balancing investment across mature models and newer generative approaches.
- Guide your team through the shift from traditional machine learning toward generative, LLM-based methods.
- Drive infrastructure decisions in partnership with adjacent ML and platform teams.
- Own the quality of your team's algorithms across the entire product surface.
- Partner closely with the engineering manager leading the adjacent team to ensure coherent personalization.
- Work closely with Product Management to translate member experience goals into strategy and experimentation plans.
- Hire, develop, and retain a diverse, high-caliber team.
Benefits
- Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
