Job description

The Software Development Engineer role within AWS Infrastructure Services focuses on designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems that support AWS global infrastructure. The team is responsible for planning and executing AWS's compute needs, ensuring reliability and accuracy in meeting customer demand. Engineers will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with various teams to deliver high-quality solutions. This position offers the opportunity to tackle complex problems and contribute to mission-critical systems.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in computer science or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate large-scale distributed systems that power AWS infrastructure fulfillment planning and execution.
  • Architect solutions that detect and explain deviations between build plans and execution outcomes.
  • Write high-quality, modular, testable code and set the standard for engineering excellence on the team.
  • Solve complex architecture and business problems with extensible, scalable solutions built on native AWS services.
  • Formally mentor engineers on design, coding, operational excellence, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with demand planning, supply chain operations, and partner engineering teams.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
