This role involves leading research and application of safety methods for foundation models at Apple, focusing on agentic safety, model character, and multimodal safety across audio and vision. Collaboration with ML researchers, engineers, and product teams is essential to build and ship effective safety solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in applied machine learning and a commitment to responsible AI practices.

• A strong ML background with hands-on experience training models and a record of results shown through publications.
• Strong coding skills, including the ability to work with messy, real-world codebases.
• Direct experience with LLMs and post-training methods, including safety alignment.
• Experience in one or more areas such as agentic safety, model character and persona design, or multimodal safety.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Define and deliver safety methods for foundation models with an emphasis on agentic safety, model character and persona, and multimodal safety.
• Research the safety and security risks of agentic systems and build the necessary data and evaluations to address them.
• Help define and safeguard the model's character and persona to ensure consistent and safe behavior across contexts.
• Build ways to train and evaluate foundation models with safety in mind, including for audio and vision modalities.
• Work with engineers and researchers across teams to improve Apple products.
