The Sr. Software Engineer role in the Microsoft 365 Substrate First Mile Networking team focuses on designing and implementing scalable networking solutions for critical platforms like Substrate and COSMIC. This position involves optimizing first-mile connectivity systems to ensure low-latency and high-reliability access to productivity services. The team addresses complex distributed systems challenges, contributing to the performance and reliability of Microsoft's global networks. Candidates will work in specialized environments and have the opportunity to solve real-world problems at a massive scale.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
• Candidates must have an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

• Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
• Drive identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
• Create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to establish and improve performance and maintainability.
• Leverage subject-matter expertise of product features and partner with stakeholders to drive project plans and work items.
• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers by developing and following the playbook.
• Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends and technical solutions to improve product performance.
