Job description
The Apple Video Services engineering team is responsible for building and operating the backend services critical to the Apple TV app, which serves as the central hub for various content. This team focuses on delivering high-quality, resilient, and observable services that handle web-scale traffic. Members are encouraged to collaborate, engage in design discussions, and conduct constructive code reviews. The role involves proposing and implementing solutions while taking ownership of critical components of the stack.
Requirements
- 3+ years of industry experience building systems and delivering internet services at scale
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with Java, JVM technologies, and runtime configurations
- Experience working in Linux or Unix environments, including performance tuning for resources such as memory and disk
- Basic understanding of Kubernetes
- Experience building and working with systems such as containers, message queues, and server-side technologies
- Experience with NoSQL, relational, or big data technologies
- Deeper understanding of modern Java concepts, including virtual threads
- Infrastructure knowledge spanning networks, CDNs, and load balancers
- Experience with application/software design and API development using technologies such as Java, JavaScript, and HTML5
- In-depth knowledge of large-scale distributed systems
- A strong inclination to deep dive into complex issues, combined with persistence and grit
Responsibilities
- Build and operate backend services critical to the Apple TV app
- Ensure reliability, observability, and uptime for the Apple TV experience
- Support the Apple TV browse experience and enable onboarding of new content
- Engage in collaboration and design discussions with team members
- Propose, design, and implement solutions for critical components of the stack
- Write high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code
- Explore new technologies and apply creative solutions to problems
